Silicone Bakeware - Why The Best Home Bakers Are Using It
In every baking process, we need equipment to give us great results as well as being safe to use. Typically, we bake in glass, metal, or ceramic pans that have been used for a long period of time. And most home cooks are slightly hesitant to depart from using traditional bakeware. However, once you've tried silicone bakeware, you can probably think again, you'll see some of the great benefits it offers, and you may want to use it for your baking more than the traditional type.
Let us first define and describe silicone bakeware. What it's made of? What does it looks like? Actually, this is the freshest innovation in the baking world today. Silicone bakeware looks like it is made from a type of rubber. The material is actually a type of inorganic rubber. It is developed and enhanced for its superb quality and durability as well as stability in which it can't be deformed or lose its shape even in extreme exposure to different kinds of temperature. Silicone can also come with an assortment of choices like its shapes, colors, and sizes. Unlike stiff and inflexible baking pans, the mold is bendable.
In fact, silicone bakeware has numerous advantages to offer to its users. You can bake on it with 400 to maximum of 600 degree Fahrenheit in its temperature and it cools down in even less than 3 minutes. On the other hand, it can also be used at 0 degree Fahrenheit or below. It is actually very versatile and durable - safe for oven usage as well as freezer and dishwasher proof - so it provides easy cleanup and chilling. In other words, it is thermally stable and also a non-reactant to a lot of chemical elements.
What's more, it's naturally non sticky and provides perfect release for cakes, biscuits, cookies etc. This means it is easier to get or to loosen baked foods like muffins and cakes without ruining your desired shape. This makes it great for baking intricate designs. It also creates best quality results and evenly and completely bakes without burning the edges and bottom areas. Another good feature of silicone bakeware is when you remove it from the microwave or oven, at the same time it stops baking and the odor as well as the flavor of the food you are cooking is not retained at all. The temperature quickly cools and it can be touched safely within a few minutes of being removed from the oven.
Also this type of baking pan, unlike a metal type, this will not rust or dent. Even if you drop or bump it, there's no worry you'll break it because it will not and so it's much safer to work with. It's also very lightweight which makes it suitable for a camper or handy to pack for picnics or any outdoor activities. Storing it is effortless and quicker than any other baking pan because it's flexible and bendable.
I think it's the right time now to consider having silicone bakeware depending on your type of usage. Having all these benefits which provide amazing and extraordinary benefits to home bakers makes silicone a perfect partner for your baking.

Can silicone bakeware go bad...?
I recently received some silicone bakeware as a gift and I'm having some problems with it. I haven't used it before so I'm wondering if maybe I'm missing something. So far all I have used is the muffin pan which I washed thoroughly before using, per the instructions. After putting it in the oven, my house was filled with foul smelling smoke! I removed it from the oven and gingerly tested a small piece of a muffin and it had a distinctly chemical taste to it. I tried again about a week later thinking that maybe the pan just needed to be seasoned or something and I got the same results, albeit with less smoke. Is it possible for silicone bakeware to go bad? Should I just forget about cooking with silicone? I swear I'm not a horrible cook and I have heard such wonderful things about the benefits of silicone...Please help!
You're supposed to wash them thoroughly before the first use. Since you did that, I don't really know... did you use soap?
You're also not supposed to get the temperature too hot, but I don't think you'd do that at a normal baking temperature...
My recommendation: call, mail, or e-mail the manufacturer and ask them. If there's something wrong with the set, they should replace them.
The 2nd source I found actually mentioned a couple more things… first of all, if you oil the pans the oil will burn and make a lot of smoke. Secondly, some manufacturers apparently put a coating on them that has to be baked off. Regal and T-Fal are two such manufacturers. In that case, I guess just baking the empty pan until it stops smoking might be the smelly solution. It seems weird, though… you might want to temporarily pull the batteries out of the smoke alarms and open some doors and windows to get ventilation if it's as bad as you say. Keep an eye on them, too, especially if you've disabled the smoke alarms. You wouldn't want your oven to catch fire.
